DRI’s purpose is to coordinate, facilitate, support, direct and fund dinosaur and palaeontological research in Canada or with Canadian paleo scientists at important sites worldwide. In addition, graduate students are supported in paleo projects.

University of Alberta scientists’ and students’ fieldwork in Dinosaur Provincial Park. Preparation of early Cretaceous vertebrate fossil material from a Rocky Mountain locality. In 2020, the DRI invested over $17,000 in student research projects and fieldwork.

A new scholarship, aimed at supporting Neoceratopsian academic research has been created by Darren Tanke. The scholarship will be $1500.00 CDN per annum. The scholarship is intended primarily for Masters and Ph.D. level students, but others may be considered.
