Electric carmaker Tesla launched a limited version of its driverless taxi service in Austin, Texas, this week. Chief executive Elon Musk has touted the "robotaxis" as a potential boon for the company and its customers, eventually offering car owners a way to make money off their vehicles when they aren't using them.

Tesla launched its robotaxi service in Austin on Sunday as its Model Y vehicles drove around a select batch of riders who gave rave reviews about smooth, convenient rides that were available for the cheap price of $4.

Tesla's long-awaited robotaxis rolled out for the first time on roads in Austin, Texas on Sunday. In videos shared by Tesla on X, a small group of invited analysts, influencers and shareholders were shown participating in paid rides.
