In giving Holy Viaticum he says: "Receive, brother (or sister), the Viaticum of the body of Our Lord Jesus Christ, which will guard you from the wicked enemy and lead you into eternal life." Q. 909.

What we now know as Holy Communion originated in a home-based religious ritual, the Passover Seder, which is still a sacred celebration marked by Jews and friends in their homes.

Metro. The sacrament of the Eucharist, sometimes referred to as Holy Communion, is steeped in tradition. One such tradition concerns the bread used during the administration of the sacrament.

Because we know that the Holy Eucharist is so much more than a symbol, we step into Heaven with it, and we could not be elsewhere — for when we receive, we are with Jesus.

And I believe that restoring a fundamental faith and reverence for the Holy Eucharist will be transforming of every aspect of our life. I don’t think that there’s any question about that.
