The creators of the the Freewrite line of smart typewriters is branching out into mechanical keyboards at CES 2025, but with a twist.

The Freewrite Wordrunner features a compact tenkeyless design, a body made from durable die-cast aluminum, backlit “high-quality tactile switches,” and several layers of sound deadening so it can be used in shared spaces without becoming a distraction to others.

This is not a new goal for Astrohaus, which has produced several devices to help people write without distractions. For example, the company's Freewrite Alpha is a $350 standalone writing gadget with an embedded monochrome screen. The Wordrunner, however, is a traditional keyboard that connects to a computer.
