The Auto Fire has burned nearly 61 acres in Ventura, California Monday night and was at 47% containment Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters say winds between 20 and 30 mph were blowing through the area as they attempted to quell the flames burning in the Santa Clara Riverbed.

As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, the Auto Fire was mapped at 61 acres and was 85% contained, according to Andrew Dowd, a firefighter and spokesperson for the Ventura County Fire Department. Previously, Cal Fire had listed a higher containment percentage,

Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley said Tuesday that “life-threatening and destructive and widespread winds” are in the region, which could fuel the growth of new or existing wildfires in Los Angeles County and Ventura County.

Jan. 17 A new wildfire was reported today at 7:29 a.m. in Los Angeles County. The wildfire has been burning on private land. At this time, the containment status is unknown and the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
