James van Riemsdyk sees a great fit for him with Detroit Red Wings — and finally being NHL teammates with fellow '07 draftee Patrick Kane.

Van Riemsdyk has multiple ties with the Red Wings. He was skating with Justin Holl Tuesday in Minnesota when he accepted their offer. He also knows Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat and some others.

James van Riemsdyk is signing a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings, sources told ESPN on Tuesday. The deal is for $1 million against the salary cap but includes several bonus incentives that could earn him an additional $750,000, a source said. Van Riemsdyk spent last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
