This is an unbelievably good move for the Avalanche, who cleared $7.75 million in cap space and could be unexpected players in free agency.

In need of salary cap space, the Colorado Avalanche created some Friday by trading Charlie Coyle and Miles Wood to the Columbus Blue Jackets. In return, the Blue Jackets traded prospect forward Gavin Brindley, a 2025 third-round pick, and a conditional 2027 second-round pick to Colorado.

Coyle has recorded 189 goals and 485 points in 950 career NHL games, while Wood has 91 goals and 182 points in 513 games
