The Toronto Maple Leafs will likely be without a veteran forward after an illegal check to the head against the Edmonton Oilers.

Oilers captain Connor McDavid pleaded with referees while trainers attended to Nurse on the ice as play was halted to clean up the blood on the spot of the hit. Reaves was handed a match penalty for the illegal check to the head and immediately ejected from the game.

Edmonton defenseman Darnell Nurse was bloodied and had to be helped to the locker room after taking a hit to the head from Toronto forward Ryan Reaves early in the second period Saturday night in the Maple Leafs’ 4-3 overtime victory.
