A Historic Live Oak tree was cut down in Gonzales Thursday night, and residents are outraged. All that’s left of the tree is a stump and a picture of the Lorax.

The tree’s fall was reminiscent of a similar live oak’s collapse during Hurricane Irma in 2017 near the UF Physics Building. The university planted four small trees in its place.

Although this tree isn’t a part of the Montrose TIRZ project, members of ‘Save the Montrose Live Oaks’ say it’s a reminder how precious these trees are.
