ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10) — Thursday marks 35 years of operation for MVP Arena in Albany. The iconic entertainment landmark opened its doors to the Capital Region as the Knickerbocker Arena on January 30, 1990, with a maiden voyage performance by music legend Frank Sinatra.

The downtown Albany arena has also been known as Knickerbocker Arena, Pepsi Center, and Times Union Center over the past 35 years. During that time, the building has hosted some of the most popular musical acts of their day and sporting events that drew national audiences .
