After one year on the Hudson River, the city favorite Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks will return to East River on Friday, once again dazzling Manhattan and Brooklyn viewers while New Jersey residents look on from afar.

A number of Fourth of July celebrations across the Los Angeles area have been canceled amid fears of federal immigration enforcement raids. The big picture: Los Angeles area protests last month put the city at the center of nationwide unrest around the Trump administration's aggressive deportation push.

Firefighters are preparing for what is typically one of their busiest nights of the year, said Daniel Berlant, California State Fire Marshal. Berlant said illegal fireworks have caused more than $30 million in damage since 2024.

Cal Fire Monday issued a no- nonsense warning to Californians regarding the private use of pyrotechnics – “there is no tolerance when it comes to illegal fireworks.”
