The U.S. stock market will be closed on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so equity traders won't be able to immediately react to what President-elect Donald Trump says in his inaugural address. The bond market will also be closed.

U.S. equity market averages advanced Friday, drawing Wall Street toward its best week since the 2024 election, with stocks largely bolstered this week by cooler-than-expected inflation data.  The benchmark S&P 500 (SP500) +1.

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq have both felt pressure as shares of major tech companies came under pressure Monday. Investors continue to keep a close eye on rising Treasury yields, which heighten worries about valuations, particularly for some of the market's most highly valued names.

U.S. market averages extended gains on Friday, as market participants digested a busy first full trading week of 2025. Cooler-than-expected inflation data has set Wall Street on track for its best week since the election last year.

The stock market chugged along this week after Wall Street finally got good news on inflation. The Dow is up 382 points, or 0.9%, and 4% on the week. The Nasdaq Composite is up 1.7% today and 2.7% on the week,
