Self-driving-technology leader Waymo and automotive giant Toyota said they have signed an agreement to work together on a new platform for self-driving cars.

The robotaxi industry leader is gaining momentum and partners among automakers, who are finally getting serious about autonomous driving.

While all that sounds very tentative, it boils down to this: Waymo has the self-driving tech, and Toyota has the cars. Sometime down the line, the two companies might start selling Toyota-built cars with Waymo's autonomous driving technology to end users.
