A symbol of transformation ... Hilal mutanaqis is a waning crescent. There is a belief that the crescent moon became known as hilal because of the cheers people sounded at the sight of it.

That does mean the predawn sky will be just a little brighter, which could diminish how vibrant the waning crescent moon will appear.
