While virtually all of Studio Ghibli’s catalog has reached America, there is one movie that came to the states without an English dub. Why?

The order of release of the 23 feature films that have been produced by Japanese animation company Studio Ghibli and one animated by the studio.

But one of these movies, 1991's Only Yesterday, never received an English dub and official American release — one of the only Ghibli films to be confined to its domestic audience.

The guild’s Foreign Dubbing Agreement is intact, so Studio Ghibli was able to record its English dub despite SAG-AFTRA’s ongoing strike against Hollywood’s top studios.
