GRAND FORKS — A Top 15 matchup in the FCS will play out in the Alerus Center on Saturday when the Fighting Hawks host North Dakota State for the first time since winning the rivalry matchup in the Alerus Center in 2023. The No. 13 Fighting Hawks and No. 1 Bison kick off at 1 p.m.

North Dakota State Bison at Northern Iowa Panthers Cedar Falls, Iowa; Monday, 7 p.m. EST BOTTOM LINE: Northern Iowa opens the season at home against North Dakota State. Northern Iowa went 9-6 at home a season ago while going 17-17 overall.

This was one of those weeks where being a Top 25 voter was miserable. Seven ranked teams lost to unranked or lower-ranked opponents, with a total of eight ranked teams losing if you include Youngstown State's loss to North Dakota State. Four of those eight losses were Top 10 teams, making this week's ballot extremely difficult.
Iowa will host FCS program North Dakota as the nonconference finale on Sept. 18, 2027. That same season, the Hawkeyes also are set to play Ball State and Iowa State. The Hawkeyes hold an all-time 17-1 record against UNI, with the only loss in 1898 in the very first matchup. That game is scheduled for the 2029 season opener, on Sept. 1.
