The destination of a Kauai kayak tour that ended in tragedy Saturday was the 100-foot Uluwehi Falls, also known as Secret Falls.

Generally, only guided kayak tours are allowed on Kauai's Wailua River. Paddling 2 1/2 miles up the river, hiking to Secret Falls and back, and returning to the Wailua Marina takes about 4 1/2 hours.

Uluwehi Falls is referred to as “Secret Falls” by locals. Have no fear, Uluwehi is a safe spot despite its nickname, and both the kayaking and the hike are under 2 hours.
