So many people lined up to see Pope Francis lying in state at St. Peter’s Basilica that the Vatican kept the doors open all night, closing for just one hour from 6 a.m. until 7 a.m.

The body of Pope Francis was transferred to St. Peter's Basilica to lie in state for three days so the Catholic faithful and others can pay their respects.

The body of Pope Francis is now lying in state in St. Peter's Basilica. The pontiff’s mortal remains, lying in an open wooden casket, departed on Wednesday from Casa Santa Marta, the Vatican guest house where lived for 12 years after his election in 2013.
