BERKELEY, Calif. - Cal women's basketball team is coming off their best season in five years under head coach Charmin Smith. However, the Golden Bears no longer want to be just a feel-good story. Smith is making sure their journey to March Madness will have the team prepped and ready to go.

Coming off their worst loss in history under coach Lisa Fortier, the Zags made too many turnovers and shot poorly inside the 3-point arc. It all added up to a 86-65 loss to the Bears in a nonconference game before a crowd of 5,060 at McCarthey Athletic Center.

The Cal women remained unbeaten as they scored the game’s first nine points, outscored Gonzaga in every quarter and led wire-to-wire in an 86-65 victory in Spokane, Wash., on Thursday night. The Zags had won their previous 37 home games.
