The British Army’s SA80 rifle will retire by 2030. Project Grayburn aims to choose its replacement and shape how the U.K.

In November 2024 the British Army was announced to be receiving new thermal scopes for SA80A3 and Hunter battle rifles via the TALON thermal imaging sights, with the deal for around 10,000 units.

The initiative aims to replace the SA80 service rifle by 2030. The SA80, officially designated the L85A3, has served as the British military's standard-issue rifle for decades.
