Two firefighters died and one was fighting for his life after a "total ambush" in Coeur d'Alene, authorities said.

The suspected shooter, a male, was found dead with a firearm nearby late Sunday, after residents in the Canfield Mountain area of Coeur d’Alene endured a shelter-in-place order for most of the afternoon. The order was lifted shortly after the suspect was found.

Local police said at least one gunman with a high-powered rifle shot at firefighters who were responding to a brush fire in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
