Well worth the trip but skip the beginning of the park where all the families and kids congregate! Keep walking, there’s plenty of deer deeper in the park where it’s a bit less crowded Full review by Joe L

A vast park next to a Buddhist temple where deer in the hundreds roam free. It is accessed via a bus ride from Nara station. There are plenty of souvenir shops around, Full review by hasanayn114

There are push cart sellers at Nara Park selling biscuits for the deers. Each pack is about 8 pieces. Nara Park (huge!) itself does not require a ticket to visit, open to all. So, the sellers will be there as long as there are visitors to the park. Good weather etc. Usually the sellers are scattered all over the park, mostly where the concentration of deers are - at flat grounds. If you don’t see any sellers, go near the temple building, chances you’ll find these biscuit sellers.

I was never at the Park early enough to not have the shops open. Regardless of when you go the Park and its attractions are well beyond just the deer. The Buddha at the end of the park is amazing. The museum along the walk is well worth it. The deer are fun but they can be aggressive. One time we were there it was fall and there were vendors selling baked sweet potatoes. We were finished with the potato and I was holding on to the wrapping paper until we could find an appropriate place to dispose of it. We stopped to take a picture and a deer snuck up behind us and stole the paper. I actually have a picture if the crime. Plan plenty of time. If you go during a festival there will also be a lot of great street food. It is well worth it.
