Eymoutiers is a commune in the Haute-Vienne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in western France. The foundation of Eymoutiers can be traced back to a church and a monastery associated with Saint Psalmodius, who had been a hermit in this area. A native of either Ireland or Scotland, Psalmodius became a hermit in a small cell in the forest of Grigeas or Grie, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine near Eymoutiers. He acquired the name of Psalmodius because he loved to sing psalms.
